Course Description

In Writer’s Workshop II, students practice writing skills through studying and understanding different types of Writing Genres. This course offers student’s extra practice and opportunities around writing they are encountering in their classes. In the middle grades, students work with literary devices to strengthen and deepen their writing. 


This course teaches narrative (personal and story), opinion, and informative/explanatory writing as a 5-step process. The 5-step process is made up of Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, and Publishing. The step-by-step lessons use examples and easy-to-understand concept maps that teach brainstorming, planning, editing, and revising. Each lesson is followed by practice that includes a simple, time-saving scoring rubric.
